Baotou Cancer Hospital has launched an online platform through which patients will be able to contact nationwide experts from major cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and get a diagnosis, Baotou Daily reported on Oct 28.
The platform works by allowing patients to chat with a doctor through a video-link over the Internet, with all case information being sent to the doctor via Internet. The doctor will give detailed treatment advice after reviewing all of the information received.
Baotou Cancer Hospital is the earliest specialized hospital integrating cancer treatment, prevention and rehabilitation, in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Established in 1984, the hospital boasts expertise in the treatment of tumors, with 30 clinical departments and one animal testing laboratory. It is a third-grade cancer hospital in the autonomous region.
The hospital established an online diagnosis system in 2009, alongside the Beijing Cancer Hospital, a third-grade class-A hospital in the field of cancer research and treatment, and established partnerships with 12 hospitals in Beijing. It is the first online platform of its kind in China.
This year, the hospital reached cooperation agreements with several well-known cancer hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta region to further facilitate online diagnosis and treatment.
So far, more than 70 patients in Baotou have received treatment advice from experts in other provinces via the online platform. And the platform will also be introduced in hospitals in banners and counties that are under Baotou's administration, including Guyang county and Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner.
