Han Bo, director of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at the Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital, recently successfully performed a thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery for a Mongolian patient called Ganbileg, according to a Jan 24 Baotou Daily report.
This is the first Mongolian patient to undergo surgical treatment at the Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital after the hospital established cooperation with Mongolia in medical technology assistance.
In October 2018, during a physical examination, 52-year-old Ganbileg was found to have a problem with his lungs with a high probability of cancer.
As part of the assistance agreement, experts from Baogang Hospital are stationed in Ulan Bator to see patients. After the physical examination with Chinese physicians Ganbileg decided to head to Baotou city for further treatment.
Ganbileg went to the Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital in December for an examination in preparation for the surgery, and chose Jan 7, 2019 as the day to undergo surgery.
The preoperative examinations that need to be done before the surgery take a lot of time and coordination. Certain examinations need to be done on an empty stomach, while some examinations cannot be performed on an empty stomach, and inspections need to be done on a certain schedule. Completing the steps required for the operation needed the cooperation of many departments and meant overtime work for the staff involved.
A green channel was opened for the patient, and departments involved in the surgery, such as the medical department, nursing department, and various medical technology departments, worked closely together to successfully complete the preoperative examinations.
At 10 am on Jan 7, after careful preoperative preparations, the operation began as scheduled.
During the operation, Han Bo performed thoracoscopic left upper lobe resection, and radical lung cancer and lymph node dissection for the patient.
After an intense 4 hour operation running from 10 am to 2 pm, the surgery was successfully completed.
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital started to carry out thoracoscopic surgeries in 2015, and it is now able to independently complete thoracoscopic lung cancer radical surgeries and mediastinal tumor resection surgeries.
The hospital carried out a thoracoscopic sympathectomy surgery for the treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis in October, 2018, marking the first time a surgery of this kind is completed in Baotou city and making the hospital one of the first hospitals in the city to independently develop thoracoscopy surgeries.
